Start with the role the partnership must play
A partner can provide distribution, local knowledge, technical capacity or access to a specific market segment. Defining that role first helps distinguish a genuine strategic fit from a convenient introduction.
Test the fit beyond the presentation
Compare customer access, capabilities, reputation and operating practices. Reference conversations and structured questions can expose differences in expectations before they become commitments.
Make responsibilities and incentives visible
Decision rights, investment, data, service standards and escalation paths should be discussed early. Clear responsibilities reduce friction when priorities or market conditions change.
Build in review and adaptation
A partnership should have regular points to assess whether it is delivering the value both parties expect. Agreed review criteria make it easier to refine the arrangement, expand it or bring it to a close.
